Hello, fellas! Today, I was supposed to share my May Wrap Up but why would I when I have a very interesting guest post instead! This is the first guest post on my blog and I'm so excited, haha! I've always wanted to do one.
I big thank you to the author for the interesting topic and without further due, here it is!
Paranormal
Book Writing vs. Sci-Fi Fantasy Writing
My
novels run the gamut when it comes to genre. Many of my books revolve around
the paranormal, supernatural realm. With books like The Flip, Stillwell and The
After House, I began with a bit of research.
I
live on Long Island, NY and we have no shortage of haunted locations. Many of
these haunted places are close enough for me to visit, so that was a lot of
fun. Every good ghost hunter knows that spirits lurk in the corners of old,
historic buildings. These became the basis for my paranormal books.
But
with The Battle of Darracia, I discovered something about myself. I really,
REALLY enjoy building a unique and entertaining fantasy world. I was in my
creative glory during the entire process. I found that I had much more creative
freedom. It was my world and I set to work building it.
Working
with a carefully planned out outline, I created a cast of characters and a
fantasy universe for my characters to live and work in. Coming up with an
imaginative language was next on my list. Starting with ordinary words and
phrases, I played around with a warping technique. Twisting and turning these things
around produced some unique character names and plot locations. It was great
fun.
While
I really enjoy writing about ghosts and hauntings, I have to say that I’m most
happy when I’m at work, writing and building my own universe and inhabiting
that world with unique fantasy characters.
